madmichaels option is a possible solution .
indeed i think twe should be back on the origonal situation where they were only awarded for special services like making maps, quests, gm workoraybe watchmen now.

Only point im trying to make is that as long as these skins are available all the criterea should be applied in the decision wether or not to award them. The first one should be if the player should indeed be rewarded.
so jail, sharing and lvl shoyld all be checked.

personally i think that gm and admin time has much better uses. so until a program can do this (jails etc are administrated i hope) i would suspend new special skins.
Indeed i found it strange to see an admin publish this list of who got a skin and who couldnt.
however if its decided to continue with them they should be fair.

Yes they are cosmetic. But I know many consider them not worthless, and indeed people pay for common skins so less common skins are more valuable then common ones.

so as long as skins are being sold, they are clearly worth something, and giving them free to bug abusers and rulebreakers sends the wrong message.

I agree with most of what you all said - only thing I'll add for now is that special skins were originally meant to be special and rare... they were given to players who contributed in some special way to the game. level 1500 was once considered special and rare as well, now it is not. Restrict the special skin to level 10k+ and people who make contributions (content, important bug reports etc) and 99% of this problem goes away ;)

When the 1500 level rule was put in place, that was a similar concept, yes.
It was much more difficult to grind to that level at the time.
I'm fairly certain, that was before pets were added - but I just woke up and my coffee hasn't kicked in yet.
This particular reward was for "supporting the game financially". As there are many players who do not have a ton of money to spend (including myself), that part of the rule did not help me then; however now it is quite possible to grind to 1500 with time. But it was decided not to raise the bar at that time. Perhaps now it is time to raise that bar. I know this will remove most from the idea of obtaining them if implemented, but that was the original goal - to make them rare, and to say thank you to those who actually are keeping the game running the most - those who design content, and those who fund the running costs of the game.

The posts above make some very good points.

The only thing I could possibly add is, the special skin issue is not as simple as many seem to think. It's actually directly linked to several other issues (some of which have been briefly touched on), and those need addressing as well. Ok, so the GM won't give a detailed explanation - fact is, we can't. This involves several internal workings, and specific knowledge of what players have done in their quests to gain said skins, among other things. I personally have been raising this issue far longer than players are aware. Things are being worked on - but no solution is simple, and no solution is quick. I do not know what the fate of special skins will be. I'm wearing one, and under my suggestions, I'll lose it as well. No, I don't like it, but making sacrifices for what is best for the larger community is part of the job.

wouldnt it be possible to have 4categories.
1) basic skin.
2) buyable skin
3) lv 1500 (and each +500skin with no aditional criterea about sharing, jail etc.
4) reward skin for map, quest, lv7k where aditional criterea do apply.
new skins are coming out more often the last year so maybe just allocate the next set to category 4.

the type 3skins still give grinders and moderate buyers still something to aim for and still offer skin changes to formar sharers and jailbirds.

there is still a unique set of skins which show to others that this person did something special for the game ( and isome may be surprised but i do agree that buying lots of lvls may be beneficial to the game.)

OK, why not work in the same idea as "people who share accounts will be permanently jailed" from the date that was implemented.

Special skins have been discontinued from /date, players currently with special skins may retain them but there will be no changing them from /date forward, unless they fall under the 7 day rule.

Players can, however, opt to have them removed.

If you want a skin purchase it.

bark bark bark
nobody fears a dog barking over the fence

a definite criteria for anything given by game and not puchasable should be done to avoid the usual infinite writings
1) criteria of assignement
2) rewards for each activity out of merely warning about an issue
3) public assignement of the reward, specifying the reason
4) in case player not valuable for the reward anymore, write who and why

recently, after special skin block , exceptions were made; the more , who got just for leveling keeps, others don t have access.
this causes bad feeling about game management, in spite of which try to defend the undefendable, i m sorry for them and respect their effort, even if i dont agree.

if rules are rules, must be respected. if a criteria is set, must be followed . exceptions always exsist, but should be explicitly declared

Dwarf dislike mining - tarvos
Archer dislike crafting - matcauthon
Ogre dislike fishing - heimdall
Mage dislike magic - ogonbat

From my observations, the players who continued to receive special skins had applied (and many were approved) BEFORE the changes to the special skin rule. The game rule regarding special skins HAS been changed to show that granting skins is currently suspended.
While nobody likes to be told "no" (including me, lol), I'm not seeing where the GMs have done anything wrong in this case.
Perhaps they'll just go ahead and change the rule to either raise the level requirement, or remove player level as a qualifier altogether. Would that be better? I don't know.
As for their statements about removing special skins on accounts, I expect they will only remove from previously shared accounts and troublemakers (rule 4 may apply).

removal of special skins has started. i know about at least 8 which were removed today whare the user got a msg saying " special skin removed for sharing".
I certainly hope that skins also have been removed because of other (multiple) offenses, but i have friends who have shared im less friendly with repeated jailbirds.
But we all know some of these names so we will surely see.

If all this means that special skins are, again a batch of honour for honourable play and services to ft, i can only applaud all this.
