Glitchy controls?

Post by SellSword »

Name: SellSword
When: Any time, last maybe 10 minutes ago
Where: Any
What: D-pad does not move character right direction sometimes.
Why: Well, D-pad really should move the right way.
Other: I play on phone with both touch and D-pad enabled. There are rare times when I tap and hold a direction on the D-pad and my character moves a step in that direction, then starts going the opposite diection. I'll usually try again and end up further away from where I want to be (not good when you need to run away or the like). I can tap directions without issue, just not hold. If I try holding a different direction it will still have me go a wrong direction. Duration is probably about 5-10 seconds and then back to working fine, and it could be days before it happens again. More annoying than anything for me so far, but there is potential for unpleasant things to happen.

And I though this was just my "El Cheapo" tablet. I have the same problem.

Best way I take care of this is tap the screen a couple of times getting LK going in the right direction then use the D-Pad, that seems to work.

But I guess it could be a bug.

EDIT: Pop this post in, get back to the game and BINGO! LK is walking 180° from what I want. hahahaha

this happens to me as well pretty much 100% of the time when I use joystick, then tap to move, then joystick again on the same map... tapping joystick repeatedly or logging or changing map seems to fix it

My independent testing is that this is not related to drinking beer at the tavern up north, though that would be hilarious if it were. Say you drink 5 beers and your controller is messed up for a minute.

I'll allow that after a RL tavern you may experience similar results...

Hahaha that would be a nice bit of programming. :D

I do know, that when using both methods of control simultaneously, they sometimes "fight" with each other.
May I ask, does this bug most commonly happen when you're headed up and/or right?

What usually happens to me is, my "thumb" slightly slides off the joystick, and I'm hitting the ground as a "touch to move" action...
You can see this more if you try on purpose - tap the ground a long distance away, then try to move the joystick against it - it's even more obvious if you run into obstacles, or your path gets blocked then unblocked. Your character does some funny dancing.

Slightly increasing the icon size may help - but note that if you increase it too much, you lose half the chat - long chat lines divide into two, essentially making your chat two lines. Balance is key. Still, it seems like you can tap directly on the UI sometimes, and the app registers it as hitting the ground underneath it. I've always found that touchscreen devices have a small margin of error - every one I've used could be slightly off occasionally. So it may not even be the app in some cases.

Then there's the "intentional autowalk" bug.
Normally, I would not describe how to do bugs - but this one is likely not fixable (at least, without a large rewrite of code), that not knowing about it could hinder your game play, and knowing about it could actually help.
Description: Show
This is easiest to do on mage, but it can be done with any class.
On mage, while tapping a spell fast, and then trying to run with joystick, sometimes you'll get locked into an autowalk - you'll keep going, until you bump into something, or change map. I do this all the time by accident, and it's even cost me a pet or two, when I drag mobs to a pet unintentionally. So beware, as you will not get your pets replaced.
It's a crucial timing of hitting one of the buttons in the bottom right (even the attack button), and the joystick, one after another.
I knew one player who could do it at will, with an archer (or any class) - and I'm sure there are more who do.
Then you're in autopilot - great for crossing the deserts, or any low map with few obstacles, and you can chat too while you walk ;)
But this one can be a real pain at times.
Now, what can you do?
Well, typically, to break a "style" of walking, you need to use that same style. If you're using a touchscreen movement, it's best broken by another touch on the screen (tap near your character); if you're using a joystick style movement, typically tapping the joystick once in another direction will fix it. The key is knowing which type of movement your character is currently doing. Using the wrong one, you get the dances

I hope, that these tips will help some have a better experience in the game, and maybe, even improve their game ;)

I can't say it's been a huge issue for me so far, and whatever the reason it's always been very short lived. I always wondered if it was a "fat fingers" type of error, but figured I would toss it out. I was just grinding on, uh... tigers ;) ... so no biggie.

Never looked at "autowalk" as a bug at all.

Hold finger on and you walk until you hit something or new screen.
Hold finger on and slide finger and you autowalk
Same with and

doesn’t autowalk as it's too close to the edge of the screen.

45° angles also work.

And if you "slide your finger from → to ↑ or ↓ and back to → you can "avoid" objects but it breaks autowalk so slide again

I use it as part of pet control.
