Walking skill idea

Since players often lament about having too much walking around, I was wondering about adding a Walking skill - the more we walk, the more we get walking xp. Skill levels would of course add a small speed to the avatar.
Not too much, just a bit.
Or each walking skill level might add a small animation to the avatar, displaying a sort of dust when we walk, as it happens in some cartoons.
I know - that would be too heavy for rendering engine and slow down game, but it would be so cute :D

I think this idea makes logical sense.
And, I'm all for an idea that increases walking speed... my alts walk soooooo slow lol.

Yes please. I hate the long walks, especially when they're the wrong way.

I've noticed since I have reached 2k, that I walk a bit faster now. ;)

Yes, you have the good legs, and I am jealous.
My highest alt is MadMagus, a lowly level 313 right now lol.

I'm glad you like this idea!
Walking and walking speed are topics we all are thinking about, I suppose.

Just to keep brainstorming going on, here are links to two my other ideas on travelling: having avatars walk fast when on roads (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12708) and adding suicide stones here and there on the map (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12942)

Though this idea does sound nice, I don't actually like it. However, I have seen another post a while back that suggested that the road/trails increase walking speed. I think that idea would go a long way to make everyone happy with this issue (though we might need to get Department of Transportation to build more roads - oh boy, more construction to slow down traffic).

I think I was part of the conversation you refer to. Roads increase walking speed, short grass normal speed and long grass /swamps mean a penalty.

Something like that anyway!

Yep, we did talk about that - I just linked that thread in my previous reply here.

I think walking skill would be fun, but roads-based-velocity is the one that would fit FT better :D

Also could be good idea to not start from beginning.. It's so annoying when u've been walking like 10min and something kills you... would be good to reappear in same place where u died or a bit closer
