Those keys are non tradeable items, thus it's normal that you can't give your friend one.
Certain monsters drop such keys, you can access them depending on your level

It's ok if your friend lost that key. In the east cave on the same map there are monsters that drop several different colors of skull key. Kinda similar to the keys dropped in the west cave by the ogre halflings. When I acquired the neon yellow key I just threw it away since I could not store it in my house or bank or tavern(which doesn't make sense to me). Then later, I got it again from monsters in the east cave.

Go to right dungeon, minimum level for start getting keys is 250 or less if some 250-499 tank you and you aren't mele
It was pointed out that a player less than level 250 can obtain keys with the help of another player. This is not very practical because the amount of work would just not be feasible. However, if someone puts in the ton of hours necessary to get the required keys, the player that is lower than 250 would not be able to retrieve anything from the chests since there is a minimum level requirement on the chests. So, it's best to just wait until you hit level 250 - though even at level 250 you may still need some help. The monsters that drop the keys are not exactly easy.
