Be Careul Who You Trust

Post by Arkadias »

Yesterday, a couple people joined my clan. They swore loyalty, and I thought they were pretty cool. But when I came back a few hours later, they had ran off with a 100 bow, 200 plate and helm, and various other items. I leave items like that in clan buildings to test the honesty of my members, and they failed the test. You need to know who is honest, and who is not. One of the people who stole the items was:

SaelBlood- Level 80+ Archer

I don't mean to put him under the spotlight, but I'm posting so people are aware of this.
Do any of you know of any people that I should not add to my clan? People need to be aware of those that will cheat them.

For starters, anyone in the list of known scammers and cheaters found under the Help Wanted section of this forum. Check the list of known alts for -Gamma- and you'll find your thief.

I've had the same thing happen to me a number of times although I was able to curb the loss a little more in some cases with a quick boot out.

My basic rule of thumb for MAX is...a character doesn't join till we get to know them over a period of time. If the character is still interested then we go from there.

My 1st response to "join please" is Why do you want to join MAX? Most people don't even have an answer for that basic question?

It may seem lengthy but I have found that honor, integrity and conviction from people in this game is all but non existent for the majority.

Many are young kids who think everything is funny. Some are *** who play the game only to annoy others.

The process weeds out most who have ulterior motives. If you're an outlaw or are silenced, please understand when I'm hard on ya...you already have a strike against ya in my opinion. Wait the 7 days before you go asking at least.

Secondly, if ya own a house, put ya good stuff in there and hand it out when someone deserves it.

A good name goes a long way in my books! eg bat111146 If ya can't spend the 10 minutes a the beginning of your adventuring career to find a name that expresses something about ya, I doubt you'll be putting a lot of effort into anything else in the game either.

Please remember, this is my opinion and there are exceptions to every rule.

Very well said.

The members I have in my clan joined me when I knew very little about them. But they turned out to be some of the most loyal and honest people I know. They have stayed with me, even after my base had been destroyed about 5 times. That's when you know they are keepers. :) But the ones that constantly ask for gold or other things; I find them hard to trust. I don't recruit cowards, or people who panic under pressure. The honest ones won't abandon you.

Noting myself for this action against TRIO and west - Although, if a new rule was enforced against it, I would not have done it, and most likely, not confessed to it  ;) I mostly support a rule being made against it, or at least, having it noted in one of the existing rules it may fall under.

But say mostly, as it is, in my opinion, also your responsibility who to and who not to invite, partly for this reason, partly due to spies (Which are actually a role in clan warfare often) if you are a duke or lord - Perhaps, although it has been said before, Marshals should not be able to invite.

The only reason I got into west was due to being invited by its (Lord I believe? But it was Minotaur). This was at his own risk. Again, only reason I got into TRIO was because JM gave me the password to TaZ upon joining - Which was again, as he probably knew, at his own risk. It was at the players responsibility who to invite here, see my point? This is not the only case, AD also had a theif at one point, same with almost every other major clan (raw ADIK DR etc)

Yet another reason for convicted scammers to have an identifying tag on their name.

I agree. Marshals should not be able to invite new members into clan. I have never understood why they can.

Perhaps we need another level of clan membership, novice. Novices are unable to pick up items in clan buildings. They can drop stuff in clan buildings (e.g. Materials) but that's it.
Once they've proven their worth, they get full membership

Maybe they can even be able to build (upgrade) buildings.
