Could one of the gm explain how this new function works

A few days ago, the game started recording what maps you've been to.
So, those you've not been to will be covered in fog.
New players will have the whole map covered.
For the players who have been playing a while, well, it will have different appearances for all - it depends on what maps you've been to in the last few days. Once you visit those maps again, the fog should not come back as I understand it.
EDIT: Note this feature is only available to those with the BETA version at the moment.
