Problem with dog trainer in banktown

Is there anything i need to do to get dialogue option with him because i thought me being 40 meant i could talk to him .
If anyone could let me know thanks

You have to talk to the "old man" about getting him a companion. He's in 3,-1 I believe.

you may also need a certain amount of gold, and maybe make sure you don't already have a pet? (I don't remember exactly how that one is set up)

Edit: make sure you have this amount in your coin purse

I think it starts with the old man complaining about being lonely, and that opens the dog trainer. Then it's just buying a dog like usual and you don't even have to bring it back to the old man if you don't want to. I recall it being well worth it to go back though. (Might want to check in on the old man down the road too! )
