Cannot make the clan...

I tried to make a clan, but it wouldn't let me. None of the words were bad, nor was the acronym, and yet I got a strange error message.
"Invalid characters in your clan name."
I tried several changes to the clan name and tag, hoping to make it work, but it wouldn't. Also, nobody else has this tag (before anyone asks), or i would have gotten a different error message.
How does that happen with a perfectly normal word?

I remember that account names with capitalization changes were stopped. Was that applied to clan tags as well? I found one variation of the clan tag that said "There is already a clan with this name".

just a hunch, but is "clan" (however capitalized) a protected word? that is, a word that the game won't let you assign to any name

It must be. No user by those variations of the name exists, nor could I make one, but a clan with 1 variation does exist. Strange.
