Possible to buy a player a house?
Is it possible to buy or trade a house to another player? My friend is going to buy me a house but we dont know how to make sure I get it.

From the Manual:
Warning: If you pay for the house and somebody else click it first after the purchase, they will get this house.

Re: Possible to buy a player a house?
Whoever is going to make the purchase should contact compbatant about it. It's possible, but it needs to be worked out ahead of time as generally the one purchasing gets the house in their name. I talked with a GM about purchasing something to give to a friend once and he passed along that suggestion.
Someone else getting the house just means that when the house has a "for sale" sign it can be purchased by anybody. If you post in the private houses thread what you want to purchase compbatant will eventually say it will be ready for purchase after a cretain time. That makes it fair game for anyone, but if you tap on it and complete the purchase it'd be in your name right away, so you don't need to purchase and quickly claim the house or anything like that.
Send compbatant a PM if you wanted to keep the location a secret, or at least not have it announced on the forum when it can be purchased.

Re: Possible to buy a player a house?
Thanks. That all makes sense... but why do we have 2 sentences in the manual:
Warning: if someone else buys the structure before you do, you’ll have to look for another one and restart the whole procedure.
Warning: If you pay for the house and somebody else click it first after the purchase, they will get this house.
What is the difference?

Re: Possible to buy a player a house?
Good question, and I have no idea. My house buying experience was that I tapped on a house that said "for sale" which brought me to the regular purchase screen you get buying pets and such, and after that was done I logged in and had a house.

Re: Possible to buy a player a house?
I heard of an instance where a player wanted to buy their friend a house, but did not want to use their account (because sharing is illegal in FT). Admins helped the player by transferring the house from the player that bought it to the player they wanted to buy it for. I'm not sure if it was an isolated incident, or if they would do it regularly, but it IS an idea that could work, IF Compbatant and admins were willing.

Re: Possible to buy a player a house?
too bad that the menu options for a house don't include "give to another player". it's availability would last a short time (maybe 2 -5 days). if selected, the house info turns into a pack item. users could then trade it.
Obviously, details to avoid abuse need to get worked out, but it's a very "out there" suggestion!
