Question on ranged mob attacks

Post by SellSword »

This is probably more curiosity on my part than help with an issue, but I have questions on how ranged mobs attack.

No matter the type of ranged mob I assume that when they move towards me to attack they stop at their maximum range to do so. Why is it then that when you walk away the mobs can still attack a few times as you are out of range? They will just stand there and a few visual attacks will still come (and can travel some serious distance as well), and depending on the mob (e.g., fire archers) you could even get the visual that you have been hit. Damage still counts too as best I can tell.

As far as I know this doesn't work the other way where a mage or archer character can move out of range and still attack.

It's just a graphics thing.
Think of how worms are - they have a long attack animation.
Every unit in FT has a set length of an animation - but keep in mind that looks can be deceiving.
The attack is at a set interval, often in the middle of the animation itself.

Not always what you see in FT is actually what is happening - just like lag can make players appear in a slightly off position.
You called me strong, you called me weak
But still your secrets I will keep
You took for granted all the times I
Never let you down
You stumbled in and bumped your head, if
Not for me then you'd be dead
I picked you up and put you back
On solid ground

Thank you. That is sort of what I thought, and certainly hoped. Grinding spectre mages with a 5-second attack interval, so I suppose "one last attack" gets 5 seconds of attack animation, more or less. Opposite of worms there with a short attack animation.
