Concerning wands

Forgive me if this has been answered or I ask a foolish question as my experience with mages and fairies is very limited compared to other classes. Here is the question. As I look through most wands and staffs there is the info "two handed", on the 600 wand there isn't any two hand restriction. In use it normally doesn't matter one hand or two because a mage can't equip a shield, or can he under certain circumstances if he has the correct equipment? For instance does a 600 wand allow him to also equip a 600 shield? My initial answer is no...mage and shields do not mix, but in case I'm missing an opportunity I decided to ask. Thanks for any response!

I just tried on test server, and no, mages can't equip shields. Too bad though!
