Arcadia should have access to the chest with the hat in it now.. I helped him through the quest to that point. I don't recall which basement the hat was in tho..

I tried to tell him to run past the Deaths and just go for the chests.. I did, and we are virtually same level

Ah.. it was an altar reward then. I ran through so quickly (risk of death, hard enemies), I didn't keep track of what reward was where.
