I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed that, but in last couple updates followers randomly stay in front of wall when entering/leaving a city or crossing to the other side. When you have 2 followers, one can stay and the other cross. And there seems to be no logic in their behavior.
At some point I'm sure they always stayed behind, which I personally find very useful, and would like to propose the return to such default behaviour. But later update made it a game of chance.
Also this happens when using short-range boats at -1.-3

Re: Followers staying/crossing city walls randomly
Compbatant said he fixed it, however, i see what you mean. They do tend to randomly stay behind sometimes.
I believe that it may have something to do with how far away an individual pet is when you cross.
My biggest annoyance with pets is that they get in the way almost EVERY time i try to cross maps.
I play this game with autowalk on as it is doesn't leave one hand lazy.
Pets should avoid map borders, entrances to buildings/dungeons and mounted horsemen
