selling confirmation

Post by rearrow »

Im posting this in the bug section because it has nvr been acted upon in the suggestion section. at the same time it seems to be causing lots of problems for players, mods and admins

it could therefire be described as a bug in game design.

if u experience lag while selling an item in shop it is possible that u accidentally sell another item too.
this is because we use touch screens and often haveto tab several times to get the tap to register and sell. because the confirmation button of a sell action apears at the same place u can automatically confirm if you experience lag.

example.
i want to sell item 1
i tap on it. nothing happens, tap again, nothing, tap, tap, after lag resolved it processes 4 tabs and sells 2 items instead of 1.

this is easily fixed by placing the confirmation button at another place.

Today i experienced major lag and awhole row of 5-6items was sold at once. including my new lv100 plate.

reply from mods after consulting admin was that it was my own fault. NO IT WAS NOT.

second reply was that tgere are so many of these accidental sells that admins dont have time to check logs so they are always declined.

That is unacceptable.
there are many thefts so maybe police shouldnt bother to.look for thieves.

this problem.has been known at least 1.5 year. if it happens that often it should be solved. not ignored.
if it can not be solved the results of this 'bug' should be corrected.

A screen shot might help the mods decide where to display the confirmation window. it would seem like location of the window is something pretty easy in the code though.

on the RPG version its actually helpful having it in the middle of the screen. when you're selling 4+ backpacks worth of items its less hassle. Even then if you get in a hurry it'll stop with approx 7 items left in backpack #1 because you have to touch in those slots vs the slot right under the confirmation window.

It would seem like this issue with lag could happen regardless. IE. if you move the confirmation way to top of screen, then in a hurry someone might tap and confirm with 2 fingers, and suddenly you're tapping on slots you didn't want to sell.

I understand the problem of selling an item unintentionally. It happens, and is very aggravating. I don't think another confirmation button would solve the problem, or be appreciated by the FT community. It would make selling items more of a hassle by adding extra steps, and lag issues would cause even more greif. It would be nice if there was a better way for GM's to be able to tell when things were sold accidentally. Maybe a confirmation for high level, hard to get items? Regular items could still be sold without confirmation. Idk how difficult something like that would be.

to clarify
the confirmation button (no extra buttin needed, you click on item. get item description eith a button alrrady) could be anywere except undereath the backpack display. just not on top of it as it is now.
Iftheres nothung underneath this button you cant accidetly select it.

anothrr idea:
dont know if someting like the following is possible in thecengine but iv seen it in other games.

selling stays like it is but on exiting the shop.you hae to confirm it once. 'are u sure you want to sell the items'.

Something that would be very helpfull to avoid this situations, would be a lock item feature, something that would work like this -> in backpack window in the item description there would be a buttom to lock the item, if the item is locked it cant be sold neither in shops, neither to other players. Not sure if its hard to code, but imo it would be really helpfull to avoid players from selling good items they didnt want to.

Confirmation only for items above a desired threshold value that you could set in game would be nice. Also a toggle for this feature (As some people, like me do not experience this problem so I would not like to have an extra click)

great idea bonesdog, althpugh value is not souch theissue as rarity. maybe in far future items can have a value attached like ' shop, drop-chance or party only' which could be used.
toggle might be easier to do. and if u set it in game with a /sellconfirm you could switch it on only if you have a rare item in ur backpack
